The story of the RAF Air Cadets started long ago when we were formed as part of the main Royal Air Force to supply better-trained and experienced personnel during times of war. We have since evolved into the largest Air Cadet organisation in the world.

As of April 2025, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets comprises approximately 50,350 total cadets. The organization is supported by roughly 10,000 adult volunteers across over 1,000 squadrons.

We have a proud connection with the Royal Air Force, but joining us does not mean you are expected to pursue a military career. Former cadets go on to follow all kinds of paths, including engineering, healthcare, technology, policing, public services and many other professions.

Our purpose is to help young people develop confidence, responsibility, leadership and practical skills. We create opportunities for cadets to challenge themselves, work as a team and achieve things they may not have thought possible.
